My Musical Journey – Up Close With the Artist

Who is your musical inspiration?

Many artists have influenced me on my musical journey including Elton John, James TW, David Bowie, Norah Jones, and Chris Stapleton but if I had to choose one it would be Paul McCartney.

His ability to adapt and create beautiful music across multiple decades and musical genres makes him a once in a generation artist. 

How did you start your musical journey?

My younger brother loved music as much as I do and was probably the better singer. He committed suicide during COVID which came as a huge shock. He has very much been my motivation in starting my own musical journey. My track ‘Endless Love’ reflects many of my own experiences of grief and loss during that period. 

With over 100,000 new songs released each year what makes you think you can cut the mustard with other artists?

Writing beautiful lyrics. Catchy melodies, harmonies and musical production are all essential in crafting a compelling track but the ability to emotionally connect with a listener through relatable lyrics will stand the test of time. I love writing and it feels as natural to me as walking. 

What musical genre best captures your style of music?

Pop. I love Pop/Indie/ EDM & inspirational tracks. I am a positive person and that comes across in my music despite dealing with some gritty themes. 

Do you play an instrument?

Nope. I am a singer/songwriter. Whilst I create the lyrics and have a clear concept of the melody, my co-composer & collaborator Rob J Hill works with me to translate that into the final product. We typically spend 4 to 8 hours in a home recording studio on each song. Then it’s time to listen on speakers, in car sound systems and headphones and work the final mix to ensure the music production is just right ahead of the release date! Rob is an excellent producer.

What would be your ultimate musical achievement?

Getting one of my tracks featured in a movie soundtrack or writing a song for a major artist.

What is your most played track on Spotify?

‘Harmony to the Stars.’ With over 38,000 Spotify streams. A huge shout out to all who have streamed it. 

What is your favourite track?

I love them all for different reasons, but if I had to pick just one it would be ‘Understated.’ It’s a song about acknowledging the efforts of others who do not get the recognition they deserve.
